During midmorning, 14 October, 1999, Beate sent Johnny a random message on the popular Internet chat program, ICQ . Johnny responded to Beate's message and they began to chat together online in what turned out to be a most of the day marathon event. Later on that same day they exchanged telephone numbers, and on that very day, Beate made her first phone call to Johnny.
The two found so much in common to chat about and when Beate called Johnny on the telephone - when he heard Beate speak, he fell heavily for her musical voice and her totally charming German accent.
During the following two weeks, the marathon of almost non-stop ICQ chats and telephone calls back and forth continued. They even ate 'together' while chatting on ICQ. Two someone's were falling fast in love. Beate talked of maybe visiting Johnny in Cincinnati, Ohio for New Year's Eve. But Johnny couldn't wait that long, and purchased a round trip ticket to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
On 29 October, 1999, just fifteen days after exchanging their first ICQ message, they gazed into each other's eyes for the first time. And when they embraced, both knew without any doubt whatsoever that they were very much in love.
Johnny never used his return airline ticket to go back to Cincinnati, Ohio. He did get Beate to hire a van and drive him down to Cincinnati for ten days. So that Beate could meet his family. And to move out of his apartment. The van was loaded to the maximum capacity, the rest of his stuff stored or pitched. Johnny and Beate have been together in Cornwall, Ontario, since, and are completely inseparable. And so deeply in love.
That is a brief history of our relationship. Very soon, we will be husband and wife. Neither of us can barely wait for soon to come. But it will happen.

We chose the song 'I Just Called to Say I Love You' for this page to reflect and symbolize the way we met and how our romance got started. We both say YIPPEEEE for the existance of ICQ and the Internet, which brought two distant people so close together.
